7 Tips for Improvement

During the month of September, we are excited to share our "7 Tips for Improvement"! Check in every couple of days to get a quick tip on how your organization can achieve performance excellence and improvement. These "Quick Baldrige Tips" will have you doing Baldrige without you even noticing!

Make Your Mission Matter

Your senior leaders' personal actions speak louder than their words - especially in the workplace. Seek opportunities for your leadership team to demonstrate how the organization's mission matters to them.

Listen to, engage, and value your people.

Perfect Circle - Creating the dance between the customer and workforce. We can't emphasize the workforce or the customer over the other for too long. Be ready to become a juggling master!

Building customer relationships:

Understand that relationships are between people not organizations

Have a customer complaint process that is responsive, timely and closes the loop. Communicate with customers in a way that makes them feel like you're communicating with them directly. Use focus groups to really understand customer expectations.

Strategy: Don’t Leave Workforce Engagement Out

If you don't include your workforce in setting strategy, you'll have a harder time engaging them in implementing it. Workforce engagement directly affects organization profitability.

Organizational Learning Leads To Sustainable Excellence

What does this mean? Do your leadership systems and culture define and support learning at all levels? What does that look like? How do you learn? How do you use the information gained from learning?

Benchmark: Compare yourself to the best to be the best!

Benchmarks are processes and results that represent best practices and best performance for similar activities, inside or outside of your organization's industry. Understanding world-class performance allows an organization to effectively set targets and stretch goals for performance excellence. Benchmarking makes results more relevant and provides leaders with actionable data to learn and grow the organization.

All work is a process!

A process is a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end. Anything can be considered a process, from planning for a wedding to conducting heart surgery. Measure, Measure Measure. A process can't be understood or improve if you are not measuring. How many thank you notes are you buying vs how many are you actually using?

Are We Making Progress? is a great tool to help organizations identify ideas for making improvements and recognize opportunities for innovation. The survey is based on the seven Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence® categories and takes about 10 minutes to complete. The Alliance for Performance Excellence and Alliance Members are seeking participants to take the survey, so we can generate benchmark data to share with our stakeholders and throughout the Baldrige community. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this survey. Click on the link below or scan the QR Code to take the survey.
