Mission

DRIVE PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE IN NEW MEXICO

Vision

NEW MEXICO IS KNOWN AS the STATE OF EXCELLENCE

Establishing Excellence

In 1994 Quality New Mexico (QNM) created the New Mexico Quality Awards program. In 2012 the program changed its name to the New Mexico Performance Excellence Awards (NMPEA). Governor Susana Martinez provided a logical time for QNM to make the change with Executive Order 2012-003 "Whereas, the State of New Mexico desires to be known as a 'State of Excellence" with its businesses and organizations achieving role model and best in class performance status."

A measurement tool to determine progress and growth toward performance excellence - businesses/organizations conduct a Self-Assessment using the Baldrige Excellence Framework and its Critiera® as the tool and submit to QNM's NMPEA for formal review, site visit, written feedback on strengths, improvement opportunties and an Executive Briefing.

In addition to the review and feedback process - the NMPEA provides public recognition based on level of performance

To date, 734 New Mexico organizations have received formal recognition in their quest to be 'role models' and 'best in class':

Level 4  Zia Award excellence - 14
Level 3  Roadrunner Award progress - 216
Level 2  Piñon Award committment - 504

Level 1 Adobe Award foundation - 31
